THE LAST ALASKA MOON

Out of Juneau in the pouring rain
Up the Lynn Canal in a shaky old plane
Pilots laundry on my knee
He looked thirteen to me
Bound for the sleepy town of Haines
To ease my eyes and to rinse my brain
To find my friends and to feel the change
And to look up the long lost tunes
In the shadows cast by the last Alaska moon

Little Jimmy T.'s going stone blind
Mainly 'cause of lead in the cheap moon shine
Three years together in the Hanoi Inn
That makes us kin
His face goes white and he's choking on fear
And he clutches my sleve and he spills my beer
He says "We're dying right now right here."
Jimmy don't give up too soon
There's a blast before the last Alaska moon

Cold calm crystal clear
Katy's calling
The sky is filled with icy diamonds
Lift your apron
Catch them falling

Halloween at the B.C. line
Border guards with nothing but time
Suspicious eyes on my friend Stan
He was shaking with the contra-ban
He was shaking still when darkness fell
And the Yukon ghosts got up from hell
And the seven sons were singing their spells
And the witches brought their brooms
To get out fast before the last Alaska moon

Rich beyond our wildest dreams
Nuggets from the icy streams
Gleeming gold no more care
Jed's a millionaire
We bought the fish and we bought the line
And we bought the shoes and we bought the shine
But we could not buy a bit more time
To hike the sandy dunes
To the quiet crash of the last Alaska moon

Isaac had a master plan
Clear and cunning
Erin's eyes were northern lights
And with one glance
He came running

Running to the last Alaska moon
